COMMUNITY PROFILE

>

The Community we serve is comprised of different tribes of Kenya mainly the Kamba, Kikuyu, Luo, Luyha, Kalenjine, Meru, and Maasai among others. All these tribes have been staying together and intermarrying. Each tribe has its own unique customs and lifestyles that are weaved together by the threads of different ideologies and beliefs. Each tribe has its unique philosophy in the way it associates itself with the society in totality.
The city of Nairobi has a population of about three million people where the majority comes from the tribes mentioned above.
The city is sub- divided into two regions, that is, Westlands and Eastlands.

Westlands
This is a region presumably for the upper-class people whose monthly income is above 50,000 Kenya Shillings (about 700 US dollars).

Eastlands
On the other hand, Eastlands region is apparently for the low-income earners, middle-class earners and the poor who most of them cannot afford 1 (one) Usa dollar (70 Kenya Shillings) per day. It is in this region where it is densely populated especially in the slums where one couple may have 8-10 children staying in a mud house without running water and electricity.

Despite the lack of quality infrastructure, and the state of poverty in Eastlands, many of these people love the Lord Jesus Christ with sense of commitment of heart and mind. It is in this region where many churches are despite poor health facilities, poor sanitation which pre-dispose to disease like typhoid, dysentery, malaria, cholera and skin conditions (diseases) among others.
The government has small clinics in each sub- location (suburb) with the ration of 1(one) clinic serving around 70,000 people.

The Church
If the church as a whole in this area can be empowered in all spheres, it is a great invincible and yet tangible force which can bring an EMANCIPATION of the great potentials of the thousands of people whom unless otherwise they will enrich the grave- yard, where many great dreams of the great- to- be people are buried because they were not given a chance or an opportunity. They were not heard, neither were they manifested as in the book of the Romans 8:19 because of their position in society.

Had it not been for Martin Luther Junior, whom God raised to speak for his people in the United States of America, it is no doubt that the voices of the minority blacks and the underprivileged in that society would not have been heard.
He said that he had a dream where one-day men and women were going to by judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. He brought an EMANCIPATION TO HIS PEOPLE.
Many a time the problem here is not the devil as many people assume, but the very devil uses the ignorance of these people to confine them to poverty, lack and diseases. God speaks for Himself in the book of Hosea 4:6 and says… “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. It is not the devil that destroys but lack of knowledge in God.

Education System
The education system is also in a poor state especially in primary schools where one classroom has up to 80-90 pupils and one teacher. This situation has caused the number of truants and school drop-outs to increase. The situation is so after the government introduced a free primary education five years ago. It is not 100% free because the parents have to buy exercise books, uniforms and contribute towards building activities once in while as the need arises.
Seemingly it is cheap if not free, because many parents can afford to take their children to school whom for many years before they could not afford. The problem is that students do not receive quality education because of their numbers in classes. The system is not flexible to identify slow learners from fast learners nor does it allow teachers to rest and add a sense of motivation to enable them to deliver.
It is unlike private schools, which have a very unique system of learning where each teacher is supposed to reach 30-40 pupils in a class. The results in the final primary exams (Kenya Certificate Primary Education - K.C.P.E) proves that more work should be done in public primary schools in comparison with the private ones which performs very well in producing many pupils to join the University unlike the public schools.
That is why you should consider volunteering or supporting someone in your country to volunteer or support us by donating to us to help our people.

Hear what Mr. JOB of old said concerning the approach he had to his community; …. I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me, and
I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
I was eyes to the blind,
And feet was I to the lame.
I was a father to the poor, and the cause, which I knew not I searched out. Job 29: 12-13,15-16

That sounds like what the church is called to be. You can be one of the above if not all. You can choose to be the 'feet’ to the lame or to be the ‘eyes’ to the blind! That is why wherever you are around the globe; we are willing to CONNECT you to an opportunity of becoming either of the above if not all.
